Documentary Shoot Two Straight Images

I took this image as one to represent rural life. This is a picture of a pond near to where I live. It would be highly uncommon to see a small pond such as this one in an urban area such as London. This is because other areas are extremely built up and most natural life is destroyed. This pond supplies me with feelings of peacefulness and it is very quiet around this area which would be highly unlikely to see when visiting a urban area. Even in the evenings when it is less busy, many cars are still on the road so is continually noisy.

Composite Image Making Straight Images

I made this image by combining two images together using Photoshop. I took some pictures of cards in the studio and placed it on a background of London. I think that the idea of playing cards and London as a destination work well together because cards may firstly be classed as more of a British game. I like how the cards look life sized and one even looks bigger than the surrounding people. I used Photoshop to crop an edge of the card so it looks like it was sticking out of the ground. I like this image because the cards look solid and large in size (even though we are aware the they are actually flimsy and smaller than our hand in real life). I could possibly try converting this into black and white  in Photoshop.

Documentary - Shoot One Straight Images

I took this picture in Canary Wharf, London. I like this image because it shows the built up and busy part of London that I wanted to present. I like this image because the tall buildings in the background are muffled and not vivid. We cannot see any details of the buildings, only the outlines which means that we focus on the group of buildings as a whole and what they mean rather than individual buildings. I like how the sky is a mixture of soft orange and blue tones because it creates a pleasant background. I will use Photoshop to makes adjustments to the image such as cropping etc.

I took this picture on the London Eye. I seized this as a great opportunity to take a landscape photograph of the extremely built up city that London is. As you can see, there are lots of buildings and houses. London is a very busy and popular place and the London Eye is just one of the many things in London that people visit on a daily basis. I like this image because it really does show how built up London is. I think that this picture is really interesting because it is unique and it is unusual to see London from above as a take on landscape photography.

I chose this image as one of my favourites because again, it shows how busy London is. I took this in one of London's underground stations. I was able to catch people rushing around the train station to get to where they want to be. I like it because within this freeze frame, I was able to present just how busy London can be on a average day. I was also able to catch a small amount of motion blur when people were walking and rushing. Furthermore, I think that this image is interesting because it would not be what you think of when imagining landscapes.

I took this image in Oxford Street, London which consists of many popular shops which large groups of people visit often. Oxford Street is constantly busy due to the large demand of people wanting to shop there. Therefore, I wanted to photograph how busy it is.

Portaiture Straight Images

I like this image because she is showing little emotion and we are encouraged to try and make something of the picture. This image is similar to the work of Thomas Ruff whereby he photographed people showing little or no expression, against a blank background and wearing ordinary clothes. He wanted to make the images as casual as possible. I like this image because there is a limit on what we can take from it. We cannot possibly know what emotions the person is feeling and even if they were portraying a specific emotion, how do we really know that they are feeling this?

This image is a half body shot. She again, is showing little emotion which is similar to the work of Thomas Ruff. I like this image because the white and faint background makes her body language and facial expressions more defined. The colour white may represent simplicity, which would work well with the idea that she is emotionless. I will use Photoshop to make adjustments to this image.

Landscape Straight Images

I like this image because I think that it has potential to be a good landscape image. I like it because it is peaceful and I like the autumn colours such as orange and yellow. The trees represent vertical lines, which imply strength and direction. I also like this picture because the trees are mostly bare, which allows us to see parts of the overcast sky. I could use Photoshop to make the colours more vibrant and eye catching as they are fairly muted and dull here. By doing this, the autumn colours that I like will be intensified.

I chose this image as one of my favourite takes on landscape photography because I like how our eyes are lead into the picture due to the long straight pavement. I like how there are no distractions in this picture ad the landscape is completely empty, because it does not divert our eyes anywhere else. I could use Photoshop to turn this image into black and white as I feel it would look better this way. I could also use the dodge and burn tool within Photoshop to create more defined tones.

I chose this image as one of my favourites because I like the light coming through the clouds and how the sky looks dainty and soft. I also like it because the sky is really the only bright thing in this picture. This image presents me with feelings of freedom and relaxation which  may be due to the spacious area that I have photographed. I may edit this photograph to make other areas more visible and enhanced rather than just the sky.

I like this image of a car park because it is different to what I would usually photograph for landscape photography and is a more unique idea of landscape. I like the reflection of the light onto the floor and the low ceiling. However, I could use Photoshop to make some adjustments regarding the colours and tones in this image because the image displayed above presents some suffocating and depressive feelings in my opinion.

Joiners straight images

I really like this joiner that I have completed because the fading effect of particular angles of his face is an alternative but more intriguing way of presenting joiners. It makes it more confusing and random, which is commonly the effect that joiners ate meant to have. I could turn this picture into black and white because I think it would supply a particular interesting effect.

I think that this joiner worked particularly well because I managed to fit together most of the pieces accurately.  I think the size scale I have managed to represent accurately also.  I like how the colours are different in each picture (for example, her jacket is two different greens in two different pictures) because it shows how individual pictures may differ from others. To edit this, I could use Photoshop to change it into black and white because I think this particular joiner would be more effective and it means we focus more on the unique and unusual shape that joining pictures together makes.

Motion Straight Images

I really like this image because I find capturing falling water extremely intriguing. This is an example of a freeze frame image and I feel as if I have achieved the action and freeze frame of falling water very well. It is hard to take a picture of falling water due to the short amount of time you have to take the photo. I adjusted the shutter speed setting on the camera to 1/2000th of a second so that I was able to catch the water falling at the right moment. Adjusting the shutter speed when aiming to capture a photograph such as this one is very important.I like how the bird bath is unfocused and the water is in clear focus because it means that the water is the thing we purely focus on and is eye catching.

I chose this image as one of my favourites because I like how the roundabout is spinning so fast that we cannot clearly work out where the dividing poles are actually positioned. This is because again, by adjusting the shutter speed I was able to catch the roundabout spinning at a fast pace. It looks blurry due to the speed that it is going which creates an illusion. This is an example of a motion blur picture which I think I have managed to capture pretty well. I like the idea of photographing things which you can move yourself in order to create motion blur because you can move (spin in this case) the objects at whatever speed you desire. I think that this picture would look better in black and white because I do not like the colours.

I like this image because it shows motion blur again as movement of a human body. The hand looks blurry because of the waving movement that the person is presenting. Even though we know the form of a hand, it is hard to work out the distinct shape from this picture due to the blurriness, I could look further into photographing people performing different actions such as fast walking, running, riding a bike, hair flicking or playing sports to represent motion blur. I like the background in this picture because it is neutral and does not contain any distractions. It is also a good background to present motion blur because the pale skin contrasts with the dark tones of the trees/bushes which makes it stand out more.

I chose this picture as one of my favourites because I like how I have captured the wind chime swaying back and forth. This is another example of freeze frame because I have taken a still image of an object that is moving. The wind chime is moving naturally with the wind and I did not have to move it myself. I really like the lighting and how focused it is because the wind chime is contrasted against the neutral background.

Framing Straight Images

I chose image as one which was one of my favourites because I like the harsh effect of the barbed wire. This picture consists of a rough wooden frame which creates an outline for the forest in the background. I like it because the barbed wire is in focus and the background inside the frame is out of focus. Therefore, it not only present framing, but a vicious texture. I enjoy taking pictures which are unusual takes on a subject topic and also that incorporate other focuses within them (in this case, texture and framing). The harsh effect of the rough wood as a frame and the sharp barbed wire contrasts with the soft, unfocused background.

I really like this image because each section of the 'whole frame' acts as a frame itself. This also acts as representation of framing within framing - there are also frames inside the original frame. I like the metal fragile look of the structure because it creates a interesting frame. The structure is unique and abstract which is why I find it intriguing.

I like this take on framing photograph because the diamond shape creates a sharpe outlined frame for the background behind. Once again, I really like the wooden frame similar to the one shown previously. The abstract structure creates a more interesting frame for the background and similarly to the picture shown above, the 'whole frame' holds individual frames.

I like this image because I have taken a literal frame and placed it against a background. This idea was taken from an image that I had gathered from the internet (recorded in my image bank). I really like this because thee 'picture' which can be seen through the frame is very distinct and clear, while objects outside of the frame are blurry for example my hand is blurry. I will not crop out the hand from the picture because I think it again outlines the fact that I have used a literal frame ad an object to represent framing photography.

Reflection Straight Images

I chose this image as one of my favourites because I really like how the reflection is so vivid and clear. I also like the orange tones effected onto the war (maybe by the sun) because it adds more interest to the picture. The reflection is distorted due to the rippling effect of the water. I find looking at reflection from water is intriguing because I like to see how the shape of the object has been distorted. For example, in this case, the outline of the tree looks jagged. This may also be a good way of presenting distortion surrounding shapes in photography.

I chose this picture as one of my favourites because I really like the simplistic nature of it. The bird bath looks blurry but a really clear reflection of trees can be seen in the reflection. I could use Photoshop to change it in black and white and crop out any unwanted objects in the picture. i could also take the picture at another angle to capture more of the reflection rather than just a segment of it. i like how you can see the bright autumn colours in the reflection as the other colours are fairly dull. Without the reflection, this image would not be particularly intriguing.

I chose this picture as one which was my favourites because I like how the sun is incorporated into the picture and how you can see the soft skyline. I think that it is effective to incorporate the object that is being reflected within the picture. I like how the coloured are muted because it outlines the reflection better. When editing this, I could change it into black and white so that the reflection is highlighted further.

This image is one of my favourites because it is different to the others shown above. This is an example of reflection on a reflective surface. It is different to the others because it shows reflection on man made structures rather than reflection on water. I took this image previously when I had visited London. I like it because it is in black and white which shows the reflection more effectively.

Shape Straight Images

I chose this picture as one of the best one which I have taken to represent shape photography because I like how the two different watches were different widths and lengths, and how the faces of each watch were different. Furthermore, they each held a different shape. The watch on the right, had a watch face which contained smaller circles and lines etc, adding further to the subject of shape. The watch links were different lengths and widths, but still held a similar shape(s). They also reflected shadows differently, probably due to the angle that I have taken the photograph on (the camera was probably not positioned accurately in the middle of the two objects). The white background helps the different shapes and different reflections of the objects stand out more. The watch positioned to the right, may appear of a thicker width, however the heavier shadow reflected by this watch may make the watch appear a thicker width. This is effective because it outlines how photographing a certain way can distort the shape and it's size etc.

I really like this image because I feel as if it is a more adventurous take on shape photography. I like how the tree is bare because it creates a more unique shape in comparison to if the tree was full of leaves. The smooth skyline with the sunset in the background works well with the out line because it makes it more distinctive. I had taken this picture previously however, I think that it works particularly well with this subject topic. When working on my progression for this photograph, I will use Photoshop to make subtle adjustments such as: trimming the black border edges around the image, changing it into black and white to show the dark and light tones and possibly adjusting the contrast, brightness and vibrancy. These changes however subtle, will make a extreme difference to the effectiveness it creates relating to the subject topic.

This image is probably one of my favourite takes on Shape because it is well focused and I like how each element here fits together well. For example, the blue tones shown in the background contrast the white flowers. I like how the outlines of the petals are soft and smooth. However, I could use Photoshop to adjust the contrast so the outlines of the flower is more visible. This way, it would be more effective when looking at the shape certain objects create. I also like how the flower in the foreground is the only one which is in focus because it causes us to focus solely on the shape an individual flowers holds rather than looking at several flowers.

Tone Straight Images

I chose this picture as one my my best because the contrasts in tone between the dying leaves and the alive leaves is significant. The picture presents some green colours which are saturated in tone and some brown and yellow leaves which are muted tones. If I were to edit this picture using Photoshop, to turn it into black and white, we would be able to see the major differences between the harsher tones and the softer tones, without knowing which tones were dominant in the original picture. The black pavement which we can see slightly, adds extra contrast to the picture; this would be easier to see if it were in black and white.

I like this photo because it is a representative of tones within portraits. I explored how different lighting and different backgrounds can create different effects. For example, here I photoshopped her using dull lighting which was reflected onto her face are and a dark background. This create a harsh effect and could be classed as more masculine lighting. In this particular instance, the jumper that she was wearing contrasts majorly with the different tones. It adds a bright white tone which can be selected alongside the tones shown within her hair and face. Half of her face is dark due to the position of the lighting, which contrasts with the opposite side of her face, which is brighter.

I really like this picture of the sky because it is filled with clouds that consists of different tones. There are a lot of dark tones, which is why the bright tones make a big impact. The small segments of light tones such as the patch of sky and the bright light shining through, break the picture up and are more noticeable due to the amount of dark tones visible. However, although the picture shows tone well already, I will use Photoshop to turn it into black and white; this will contrast the soft and harsh even more.

I like this picture because it is an alternative to the harsh lighting image that is previously shown. It was taken in very bright, soft lighting and shows more details. There is less of a range of tones in this picture and little contrast. This lighting looks more 'elegant' and more feminine - it doesn't make you look like a criminal! Her skin looks soft and there are no dark tones on her face in comparison to the once shown previous. The background is lighter than her skin tones, hair tones and the colour in her jumper which creates contrast, but very little of it. I could adjust this photograph using Photoshop to increase the variety of tones shown.

I chose this image to be one of my straight images because I think that once edited, it will show up the different darks and lights within the beaches, leaves and the sky. I think that I have taken it at a good angle because it is from underneath the tree; this shows the different tones starting from the core of the object, right out to the edges of the branches. I will use Photoshop to adjust the different tones, especially incorporate more dark tones so that the image will represent the subject topic of form more efficiently.

Pattern straight images

I chose this photograph as one of my favourites because I like the randomness of the shapes within each tile. I like the muted grey/blue colours and how there are different tones of each colour. I like the angle in which I have taken this photograph because I think it shows the individualization and different shapes within each tile more efficiently. I enjoy looking at irregular patterns because they take a more individualistic approach and are more intriguing. To improve this picture I could crop out the bottom edge of the photograph to avoid distraction from the pattern itself. I could also make the colours more saturated so that the different tones and shapes are more eye catching.

I like this photograph because the beam of light shining through the windows show the discoloration/stained glass. This is presenting a regular pattern. Although I find irregular patterns more interesting to look at, I think that this works well because of the different windows. This image could be seen as an abstract way of showing pattern photography, which is why I find it intriguing.

I chose this picture as one of my favourites because I like this take on pattern photography. I like how each segment of the pyramid shape has identical patterns and how the lines all lead into the same position - the middle. We are therefore drawn to the middle because this is where the patterns all come together as one. After this, we are left for our eyes to divert around the rest of the picture but due to the regular pattern, it all looks similar. This creates a subtle illusion because our eyes have no different places to look due to it all looking the same. I will use this in my work diary to improve and to progress my
work further.

I particularly like this picture because it is simple but effective. The pattern is regular but distorted, due to the wonkiness of the small tiles. The sphere shape of the pole is interesting because although, we know that the pattern will contain around the sphere, it is hard to pinpoint just by looking at this photograph, where the pattern would come to an end. It gives you things to think about, despite being quite a simplistic way of showing pattern through photography.

Texture straight images

I chose this as one of my favourite photographs which I took because it is well focused and I like how close up it is. As shown in my texture image bank, the images were taken as close up shots to clearly show the textures in an object/objects. A close up shot causes us to we at the different textures within this photograph such as the smoothness of the corroded bricks and the roughness of the stoney ground. We would not usually look at the ground and view the different textures within it and look at how and why the contrast  so taking a picture like this, takes everyday objects and looks at tiny details within them which would go ignored. The bricks are different tones and some stand out more than others. Incorportaing colour within subjects such as texture, mean that certain textures stand out more than others. This picture causes us to look at individual bricks one by one, starting with the ones which we see first (like the ones in the front of the pciture).

This photograph is one of my favouriotes because I like the different depths of the ridges in the wood. I am immeditely drawn to the deepest ridge because this shows the most amount of texture. I like how wood within the topic texture shows rough surfaces and shows clear lines/cracks within it. This helps us to think what the image would look or feel like if we were to have the objection front of us. The photo is extremely focused to the point where we can see some discoloured splashes on the wood. This breaks up the rough texture and make it more interesting.

I chose this photo as one which showed texture extremely well because the cracked painted surface is extremely focused upon. The deep cracks and peels on the paint are reflected by the beam of light in the top left hand corner which illuminates the texture. The saturated colour red intensifies the cracks and peeled surface. I was interested i photographing a painted surface to show texture because I think you can take a lot from it, especially one such as this because of how deep the cracks and ridges are.

I think that this photo is on which shows texture well. The texture is shown exactly how people who would imagine that bricks would look and feel in real life. The angle which i have taken this photo at works well with the subject topic because I have taken it from a close enough angle to present vivid texture.

I like this photograph because the textures are all different. Thee is not one specific texture throughout the image like the ones shown above. I look more closely at each individual slab to recognise the different textures in them. There are some rough surfaces and ridges as well as smooth surfaces shown which is why I think that this shows texture well - the photo explores different textures and incorporates them into one. There are different beige tones shown in this photo which outline the different textures. For example, there are some smoother textures which are light beige in colour and some rougher textures which are a darker beige.

Form Straight Images

I chose this image as one which represents the subject topic of form because I like how the flowers are shrivelled due to them dying. The flower is not as alive as a fresh flower would be which creates the 'wrinkly' effect shown here. I think that it is more interesting than having an alive flower because it consists of a different texture and different patterns. In an alive flower, the petals are almost all the same but in comparison as shown here, the individual petals are different shapes due to the way they have shrivelled. This creates a more interesting form compared to if I had photographed an alive flower. The white background contrasts against the off cream/white colour that the flower has and the shadows created around the flower reflect the form even more.

I chose this image as one which inspired me because I liked how the spikiness of the cactus create an odd shape. It is not just a typical 3D shape which represents form but is unusual. I like the shadows which are casted by the spikes on the cactus. The shadows almost make it seem like there are extra spikes on the cactus but actually, there isn't, it's just the shadows made by the existing spikes. I like how the angle shows the form of the cactus and how the spikes extend at all different lengths and directions.

I chose this picture as one of my favourite because it shows a more unique shape rather than photographing a basic three dimensional picture as a way of presenting form. The way that the statues have been carved create ridges which then presents a different shape. In this photograph, the two different statues are seen as holding individual forms. This is because of the way that I have consciously positioned them and photographed them.

I chose this photo as one which represents form because I like how the oval shape is presented and how you can see through the object, onto the background. Not only this, but the round candle represents form also. The two shades of white contrast against each other although being similar - the shadows reflected by the object make the white background appear darker. When photographing form, it is important to show incorporated shadows within the images which I feel like this picture does well.

I really like this photo. In my opinion, photographing several images in one picture is more effective than just looking at the form which one specific image holds. The jagged edges of the candles create an intriguing representation of form. The photo is very focused and shows not only form but texture and colour also. It is important to incorporate different subject topics into one because they all fit in together.
