Reflection Straight Images

  I chose this image as one of my favourites because I really like how the reflection is so vivid and clear. I also like the orange tones effected onto the war (maybe by the sun) because it adds more interest to the picture. The reflection is distorted due to the rippling effect of the water. I find looking at reflection from water is intriguing because I like to see how the shape of the object has been distorted. For example, in this case, the outline of the tree looks jagged. This may also be a good way of presenting distortion surrounding shapes in photography.

   I chose this picture as one of my favourites because I really like the simplistic nature of it. The bird bath looks blurry but a really clear reflection of trees can be seen in the reflection. I could use Photoshop to change it in black and white and crop out any unwanted objects in the picture. i could also take the picture at another angle to capture more of the reflection rather than just a segment of it. i like how you can see the bright autumn colours in the reflection as the other colours are fairly dull. Without the reflection, this image would not be particularly intriguing. 

   I chose this picture as one which was my favourites because I like how the sun is incorporated into the picture and how you can see the soft skyline. I think that it is effective to incorporate the object that is being reflected within the picture. I like how the coloured are muted because it outlines the reflection better. When editing this, I could change it into black and white so that the reflection is highlighted further. 

  This image is one of my favourites because it is different to the others shown above. This is an example of reflection on a reflective surface. It is different to the others because it shows reflection on man made structures rather than reflection on water. I took this image previously when I had visited London. I like it because it is in black and white which shows the reflection more effectively.

Evaluation and Progression



  I find this image really interesting because it shows the reflection of the trees so vividly on the water. The image reflected onto the water is distorted due to the rippling effect that water has. This image makes me feel really peaceful because the trees are green and full of life and the water is calm. The reflection would hold a different shape if the trees were bare and the shape wouldn't be as full. If the trees were to be bare when I had taken this picture, it wouldn't be as enclosed and the trees wouldn't have reflected as well due to more light getting through. Furthermore, I really like this because it shows a clear reflection through a crisp shape of the trees on the water. This picture just seems to be uplifting which is why I like it.


         
 

  I used Photoshop to intensify the colours and therefore the reflection on the water. I made some major adjustments to the exposure, saturation and vibrancy setting because I wanted the colours to look abstract and unrealistic. I really like the final outcome because it has made the orange colour more visible - I barely even noticed that the original picture had any orange tints in it because they were not vibrant. The reflection on the water is more sharp which is why I think that the adjustments I have made work extremely well with the subject topic.

Evaluation:

  I chose this picture as one which I really liked and wanted to look at further and try to progress it because I like the wide scale shot, fitting both the sun and the reflection in. Within reflection photography, I think that it is more effective to include the object actually being reflected within the picture. For example, in the picture shown above, I did not just photograph a picture of the reflection in the water however, included the trees too. I like how the colours in this picture are all similar (grey/bluely tones). The lack of variety of colours means that the sun and the reflection overpower any other elements in the picture that we may get distracted by. There is no overpowering colours which we are drawn to as they are all fairly dull which means the reflection and the bright sun are the focus points.

Progression:

To edit this picture I used Photoshop to change it into black and white and adjust the 'curves' levels. I thought that I should change it into black and white because the tones were near enough that anyway. With the adjustments that I made, the picture highlights the reflection better and the brightness of the sun beaming onto the water is intensified. The sun outlines the ripples of water. I like the different tones within the picture also, especially in the reflection. If I were to take this picture again, I could maybe adjust the brightness on my camera settings so that it wasn't as dull. I would therefore be able to adjust the contrasts/light/dark tones in the picture easier. I could also use a tripod to take this picture because it was fairly hard to fit everything in the background while keeping a steady hand.

Evaluation

  I chose this picture as one which I really liked because I like the reflective surface of a man made building. I had taken this image previously when visiting London. I think the fact that the sky was overcast this day is particularly helpful because it looks better in black and white. I like this because it is different to the other pictures shown above due to the fact that it is showing a reflective surface of a building rather than reflection on water. I like how it is in black and white because the reflection is outlined better. In my opinion, this image does not need any further adjustments made to it because I think it already shows reflection well.









Progression

  Overall, I think that my series of images which I presented, focusing on the subject of reflection photography could have been improved. Therefore I returned to this project to take some images which presented reflection to a better standard.



  Here is an image which I took to progress my take on reflection photography further. I took this image while on a trip to London. I took this as a good opportunity to capture some more interesting photos for this topic. I really like this image because it is more of an intriguing take on reflection than some of the previously shown images. The sun reflects brightly on the water here. I like the skyline in the background as it creates a more interesting background for the images.





  Shown here is another image which I took to show progression within my work. I took an image showing reflection in a mirror. In the reflection you can see my two friends. The large mirror meant that I could capture a large reflection within it. I think that this is a large improvement to some of my opposing images within this particular focus. I should use Photoshop to improve the lighting etc of the image.

Framing Image Bank

I chose this picture as one which inspired me because I like how the photographer has taken the whole idea of 'framing' to another level, however is the most simplistic idea. They have literally just taken a frame and placed it within a picturesque setting. This idea is so simple but clever. It creates an illusion because it makes us question how the frame could just be hanging there - is the frame actually hanging on a wall and the scene is the background? The frame divides the picture into two parts - the part presented within the frame and the rest of the scene. It makes us think about how the picture would differ to this is the frame had not been placed there, or even placed in that specific position - what would look different is the photographer had placed the frame to the right or left rather than directly in the middle? 

I chose this picture as one which inspired me because I really like how a happy, ideal autumn setting is presenting through the gap within the tree. It gives us a glimpse of life on the other side of the tree. I find this interesting because the photographer has just come across this specific tree that has grow to form a hole in the middle and they have taken the unique opportunity to use it to frame a peaceful setting. I could use this idea when thinking about framing photography. 

I chose this image as one which inspired me because I like how the picture has been positioned and the frame of the plane window has been used cleverly to outline the skyline. The small, rounded window gives us a small glimpse of the outside world on the other side. There is no other objects in the picture that we can see but sky which reminds us that this is actually a picture that someone has taken thousands of feet up in the air. 

Reflection Research Post (Vivian Maier)

Vivian Maier was an American street photographer who was born in February 1926 and died in April 2009. She was a nanny but in her spare time, was devoted to photography. over the decades, she proceeded 100,000 negatives which were mostly shot in Chicago and New York. She produced some interesting images, sometimes focusing on reflection photography, which most of time conveyed some deep meanings.

  This is a piece of work constructed by Vivian Maier. I like it because it looks like she has slyly photographed herself in a mirror which a man is trying to carry. It looks as if the man probably does not know that she is even standing behind him and is probably just trying to get on with the job he is aims to complete. However, this may not be the case and she may have conciously constructed it to look this way. The fact that the picture is black and white works well with this picture because the outline of the mirror is barely visible and looks as if it blends into the background.

  I like this piece of work by Vivian Maier because it reflects possibly a family (a father and his children). This could tie in with the idea of family (which she may focus on due to her occupation as a nanny). I lie the reflection onto the puddle because it is very vivid and distinct, which I personally think is important within in reflection photography because it really highlights the subject topic. I think it is effective in black and white because it makes us the try meanings behind family. She has photographed family within an everyday setting - walking down the road. Reflection as black and white images highlights he reflection better because it prevents overriding factors getting in the way (for example, colour).

  This image is one of my favourite pieces of Maier's because it hold a deeper meaning tun just a reflection of herself. Her presence as a nanny throughout her life is shown here. Once again, she is reflected in the image however, two small children are also presented through the window. The reflection on herself onto the window and the presence of two small children through the window, ties together her occupation as a nanny and her hobby which she took up in her spare time (photography). This image could not only represent ample reflection from a window, but reflection on her own life which consisted of her nanny duties. The image of the children through the winnow is particularly clear, whilst other elements such as her own reflection is fairly blurry. The fact that the image of the children can be seen so clearly may reflect the idea that working with children played a big part in her life. This is why I like this particular image because it shows deeper meaning and how Vivian has incorporated both of the main things within her life into one picture.

Framing - is simply using other objects in your photograph to frame the main subject. This is probably one of the easier composition techniques in photography. Framing brings more depth to the picture and a better focus on what the main subject is.
